General Questions

New Maroon Camp is a week-long, student-led camp that prepares first-year students for the transition to Mississippi State University. At New Maroon Camp, students learn what it really means to be a Mississippi State Bulldog.

Students will learn MSU history and traditions, meet other new students, find opportunities to get involved, and learn about the MSU campus.

Some would call New Maroon Camp "their favorite experience of their college careers." Visit our "About Us" tab to read more about the NMC experience!

Good news- We have two NMC sessions this year!

The full five-day New Maroon Camp 2024 dates are August 11-15! This includes move-in day that will take place on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11 (move in dates will be determined by Housing and Residence Life). The five-day camp is available for all incoming students, both freshman and transfer students, however please note that we cannot provide housing for those who are not living on campus during the 2024-25 school year. If you choose to attend NMC and are not living on campus you must make your own additional living arrangements for the duration of Camp.

Our new transfer session this year is a session exclusively for transfer students! This new transfer session will be a two-day experience in which incoming transfer students can meet each other, get to know campus, and ask questions about life at MSU before classes begin. This session will take place August 19-20.

We can't wait to meet you!

New Maroon Camp is held on Mississippi State's campus each year, with students living in their assigned residence halls for the Fall and Spring Semester. Being on campus for this week will give students an awesome chance to get acclimated with everything on campus!

New Maroon Camp prides itself on being entirely student planned and student led. Our executive board members and staff members come from all walks of life, campus organizations, and majors. This group of students is passionate about MSU history and traditions and teaching our incoming students just what it means when we say we're a part of the bulldog family. New Maroon Camp has a designated advisor who is a member of the Center for Student Activities staff.

Registration for NMC 2024 will go live April 1st!

You will receive a confirmation notice through your MSU email (Ex: NetID@msstate.edu) after the application is finished and the payment has been made!

Buddy staff is responsible for accommodating students with special needs including mental, learning, and physical disabilities. Throughout the week of camp, they will provide extra support where necessary, additional one-on-one assistance as needed, and interactive activities if needed to enhance everyone’s experience.

NMC 2024 registration will close on July 18, 2024, at 11:59pm CST.

However, there will be a cost increase on June 30, so we encourage students to register for camp as soon as possible.

The camp fee for the five-day New Maroon Camp 2024 is $200 and will raise on June 30 to $250. Students may also apply for need-based scholarships that will be given on a case-by-case basis to cover the camp registration fee. There is also an additional housing fee of $30/night from your student's move-in date until August 17th. This fee will be charged separately by Housing and Residence Life to your student's MSU account after the start of the Fall Semester.

The camp fee for the two-day New Maroon Camp 2024 Transfer Session is $40. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a need-based scholarship for the transfer session.

You will see additional information regarding this separate charge when you register for New Maroon Camp.

Once you submit your registration, a new window will open for you to pay the camp fee by card.

Please note, the fee for early move in is separate from New Maroon Camp and will be billed directly to your student account from Housing and Residence Life. You will see additional information regarding this separate charge when you register for New Maroon Camp.

All scholarship requests should be approved or denied by the middle of July.

An email will be sent to the students MSU email (Ex: NetID@msstate.edu) that will explain what to do after being approved or denied of your scholarship request.

If you receive a scholarship, you must attend a minimum of 75% of the sessions each day or you will be required to repay the scholarship. Scholarships are limited, and unfortunately not everyone that applies will receive one. Therefore, it is imperative we use them only on the students that truly intend to reap the benefits of coming to camp.

Full refunds are available before May 31st and half refunds are available until June 30th. Unfortunately, after July 1st, we are unable to issue refunds.

Yes!

Good question! New Maroon Camp and Orientation are two totally different programs that are designed to be complementary to one another. Orientation takes place over the summer, but New Maroon Camp happens in the fall right before school starts.

Our goal at New Maroon Camp is to prepare you for a successful (and fun!) fall semester and transition to Mississippi State University. New Maroon Camp is a building block from which students can learn to embrace what it means to be a member of the bulldog family. We'll review important topics and have discussions that will be helpful as you begin your college journey. New Maroon Camp is an initial opportunity for students to discover and embrace the rich traditions and history of Mississippi State University... with some friendly competition along the way, of course!

New Maroon Camp has something to offer whether you're from Starkville, New York, or anywhere in between. Here you will get a first look at your college life while meeting over 1000 other new students, and you may even find your best friends!

Freshman Questions

A need-based scholarship is available to attend camp. This scholarship is based on student's financial needs, students must complete their FASFA as soon as possible since this information will determine if you are eligible to receive the scholarship.

The scholarship covers ONLY the fee for camp during the week of August 10th and 11th.

If you receive the scholarship, you must attend a minimum of 75% of the sessions each day or you will be required to repay the scholarship. Scholarships are based on financial information through the FASFA and unfortunately not every student will receive one. If you do not meet the requirements, through the Office of Financial Aid, students may still submit payment for their Registration, and the price will be based on when they completed their NMC Registration.

YES!

If you apply for a New Maroon Camp financial need-based scholarship and do not receive one, someone from NMC will reach out about next steps to pay your camp registration fee. Anyone who applies for a scholarship prior to the cost increase on June 30, 2024 will be guaranteed the original cost of $200.

Your spot will be held until July 18 at 11:59 p.m. CST when the application closes.

Housing assignments will not be announced until May. If you have further questions related to your housing assignment, please refer to Housing and Residence Life at 662-325-3555 or housing@saffairs.msstate.edu

NO!

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life has worked directly with New Maroon Camp to ensure that those who would like to attend both Panhellenic Recruitment and the five-day NMC experience will be able to do so.
New Maroon Camp will take place August 11-15, and Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment will take place August 15-20. The day that overlaps between the two has been intentionally planned so students are able to participate in both opportunities. However, for those who wish to attend the transfer student session on August 19 and 20, it will directly conflict with panhellenic recruitment.

Mississippi State University's IFC (Fraternity) Recruitment will take place during a different week than New Maroon Camp.

Transfer Questions

YES, ABSOLUTELY!

New Maroon Camp is for ALL first-year students at Mississippi State. We recognize that our transfer students already have some college experience under their belt, but we highly encourage transfer students to attend New Maroon Camp so they can get connected and begin their transition before classes start.

This year we are offering a separate session just for transfer students! This two-day session, exclusively for transfer students will allow incoming transfer students to meet each other, get to know campus, and ask questions before classes start. This session will be a shortened two-day experience and held after the five-day NMC experience. The transfer session will take place August 19-20 for a cost of $40.

The two-day NMC Transfer Session is a new experience offered exclusively for incoming transfer students. This session gives students an opportunity to connect with each other, get to know campus, and learn about Mississippi State from a transfer perspective. The transfer session will take place after the conclusion of the five-day session, from August 19-20 with the cost being $40.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a scholarship for the transfer session taking place on August 19 and 20. Every attendee must pay the $40 camp fee, which will allow them to receive a NMC cowbell and t-shirt.

YES!

Transfer students are more than welcome to attend the five-day Camp experience! Transfer students who intend to go through Panhellenic Recruitment should attend the five-day session, as the transfer session activities will conflict with recruitment. Transfer students have the opportunity to choose which experience they would like to attend (the full five-day OR the two-day transfer session). Please note, if you would like to attend the five-day session but are not living on campus during the 2024-2025 school year, you must arrange your own accommodations for the week of camp.
